You play as Ryder - a Pathfinder whose mission is to find habitable worlds and forge alliances with the galaxy's new alien races. The story is told across a vast open world structure, with enormous planets to explore filled with side quests, hidden lore, ancient alien ruins, and enemy outposts. A nimble new combat system ditches the cover-heavy pace of the trilogy in favour of fast, fluid movement - boosted jumps, combat rolls, and a flexible ability system that lets you mix and match biotics, tech, and combat skills freely without locking you into a class.

The Nomad ground vehicle makes traversing the sweeping alien landscapes a genuine pleasure, and building and upgrading your own weapons and gear through the crafting system adds satisfying depth to progression. Your crew aboard the Tempest - a colourful cast of new characters - develop through conversations, loyalty missions, and relationships that give the adventure a personal, character-driven heart. A separate team-based online multiplayer mode rounds out the package with fast, co-operative combat missions.

Andromeda has found a much warmer reception since launch as patches addressed its early rough edges - and for players who love deep RPGs, rich alien world-building, and hundreds of hours of content, there is a genuinely rewarding adventure here.
