Arena Wars offers an unconventional mixture of RTS with FPS gameplay. This game actually models its FPS part from multiplayer Arena-type titles, such as Quake III and UT2004. As a consequence, it has no real story and the RTS part is free from the usual resource constraints. All players have the same amount of money at their disposal and are refunded for destroyed units.

The game offers modes or events that are the mainstay of arena FPS competitions: Capture the Flag, Bombing Run and Double Domination. Unreal Tournament's influence on the game is obvious here. Arena Wars builds on the inherent tactical elements of these games and leaves the actual combat to the AI.
