It has gone on to become one of the top selling games in the RTS genre and one that many have praised as taking the genre to the next level. By making use of the revolutionary 'Tactics Engine' developed by Auran, Dark Reign gives players an amazing level of detail and customization never before seen.

A futuristic RTS game set during a war between two sides - the Imperium and Freedom Guard. The premise is that the repressive Imperium are dominant in the struggle for land and water, with the rebel Freedom Guard on the retreat. The Freedom Guard are attempting to send one of their men sent back in time in order to rescue a character named Togra, who can change history and prevent the Imperium from becoming so powerful. To save your society; to save your lost messiah; to save yourself you must open the dimension door and alter the destiny of a galaxy

The single-player campaign consists of a series of 12 missions, each of which can be played as either side, and missions are tied together with a strong story. You'll get to play both sides in the conflict and mission objectives vary. Each mission puts you in the role of commander of either the Imperial army or the Freedom fighters in a campaign to undermine and eventually destroy the opposing force.
