The game's main selling point is the revolutionary VSIM system which allows players to independently command the movement and sword fighting of their in game avatars; running, jumping, and turning with one hand, while simultaneously slashing, stabbing, and parrying with the other. That means you can slice your sword any way you want to, and perform whatever move your heart desires, with a simple mouse stroke. The graphics engine, of course, is especially designed to handle the bloody outcome of a well-executed sword fight - because cleaning up the limbs and blood is not pretty.

While many games of this type allow for a similar dualism, Die by the Sword remains to this day unique in its treatment of physically correct and force based melee combat.
