Kessen - PS2 Game
You are looking at Play Station 2 game Kessen.
Kessen is Koei's cinematic real-time strategy epic, one of the true launch showcases for PS2 and, alongside Dynasty Warriors 2, one of the console's earliest demonstrations of what the hardware could actually do. If you enjoy the commander's-eye strategy of Command & Conquer but want something rooted in real feudal Japanese history and told through jaw-dropping cinematics, this is a genuinely special early PS2 experience.
Set during the decisive Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, you lead the powerful Tokugawa shogunate against the rebellious western army of Mitsunari Ishida, deciding the fate of Japan for the next two centuries. Rather than juggling resource management and base building like a traditional RTS, Kessen strips things down to pure tactical command - you enter each battle with a set army, choose your formations and officers, and focus entirely on outmanoeuvring and destroying the enemy commander. It's an approach that keeps the pace fast and the drama front and centre.
The presentation is a genuine showstopper - full orchestral score, theatrical chanbara-style cutscenes, and battle choreography with soldiers stretching back as far as the eye can see, all rendered with a clarity that stunned players used to earlier consoles.
Features:
- Play through history's most decisive Japanese battle from either side
- Stunning DVD-quality cinematics and full orchestral score
- Choose your officers, troop formations, and battle tactics
- "What if" branching storylines let you rewrite history
- Hidden Battle mode to replay and refight any previous stage
- Approximately 20 hours of story content across both campaigns
For fans of accessible, cinematic strategy and Japanese history, Kessen remains a genuinely memorable slice of early PS2 spectacle.
