The plot brings up aspects of irrational and subconscious dream viewing and near death experience. The main character, a mid-aged writer, who has recently got back from long-term wanderings in North Seas, receives an invitation letter from his brother – a scientist and professor at a university, whom he hasn't seen for years, and decides to visit him. However upon arrival, the writer receives news about sudden disappearance of his brother and as he finds out, the scientist turned into a real outcast, who has alienated himself completely from the outer world and has been secretly working on a mysterious machine, which, according to his calculations, could separate one’s consciousness from his physical appearance.
