Splinter Cell is a third-person stealth based game, similar to Metal Gear Solid. SPLINTER CELL will grant players access to the highest echelons of national security, where shadowy operatives have the freedom to do whatever it takes to safeguard America. In SPLINTER CELL, you control Sam Fisher, a field operative of a secretive 'black-ops' NSA sub-agency called Third Echelon. Third Echelon is a secret organization, a part of the U.S. government. The organization deals with very sensitive missions; missions so discreet, that if you are captured, the government will deny any such existence of that organization.

Since it's a stealth game, you have a variety of means to defeat your enemies . You can use your weapons, but the noise might alert a guard. You can stun them, kill them, subdue them, jump down from the ceiling and knock them unconcious. Some enemies are needed to activate a door or passcode, so you might need to take an enemy hostage by holding a gun to his head, interrogate them, or just use them as a human shield.
