The Emperor of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, told his generals, 'This affair will be no more serious than eating one's breakfast.' He expected to defeat the Allies near Waterloo and enter Brussels in triumph by nightfall. Starting before noon, the battle raged fiercely for five hours. Then the Prussian Army arrived to aid Wellington. Five hours later, the French Army was broken and retreated in disorder. Napoleon had 'met his Waterloo.'

Waterloo captures the excitement of the early 19th-century battle with all the colour, pomp, and pageantry of the Napoleonic era. Take command of Napoleon's troops or Wellington's army and change history in this epic game based on Sid Meier's Gettysburg engine. There are over 30 historical and speculative scenarios depicting all phases of the battle. The game also allows you to design your own battles: pick your own forces and battle objectives for unlimited play.

The multiplayer mode allows up to eight players over LAN, or the Internet. There are over 60 historical uniforms, including French Light Infantry, the Old Guard, the King's German Legion, Polish Lancers, and the Scots Greys. The dozens of historical landmarks include the all-important Chateau Hougoumont, La Haye Sainte, and Plancenoit Church. The game also features an exhaustively researched historical account of Napoleon's return to the throne in 1815, and his ultimate defeat at the battle of Waterloo.
