Yugi and his gang are huge fans of Duel Monsters, a card game in which players pit different mystical creatures against one another in wild, magical duels. Packed with awesome monsters and mighty spells, Yugi and his friends are totally obsessed with the game.

Detailing the Duel Monsters game's affect on Earth history, Yugi's first PlayStation 2 adventure forces the players to choose a side in the final War of the Roses in England's distant past. Opting to play as either Yugi or Kaiba - and hence good or evil - the two engage in a series of card battles, wherein both sides are out to capture the 'Rose' cards held by their rival.

An all-new card movement system gives the player full control over 680 different creatures, and offers an unrivalled level of depth and enhanced strategy to constantly challenge the player. Each of the creatures offers a wealth of attacking, magical and defensive options as the player takes on a number of rival duelists made famous in the very successful animated series. Combat is entirely turn-based with a consistent 7x7 grid map serving as the battleground. Each player can summon up to five monsters simultaneously, with powers and abilities determined by card type, location, posturing, offensive and defensive point values, square terrain, and an experience-based rank system that determines its power. The result is a truly engrossing addition to the Yu-Gi-Oh! series with the emphasis on speed and wits, assisted via a control system that allows the player to switch card attributes with ease. Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses also features heroes, villains and monsters in full 3D, with all the card battles and their results depicted in stunning detail, as every spell is shown hitting home in vibrant detail.
