Whiplash is one of the most hilariously absurd and inventive action-platformers on PS2, built around a concept so brilliantly ridiculous it immediately sets it apart from every other game on the platform. You play as Spanx, a twitchy, bug-eyed weasel chained by a two-foot length of chain to Redmond - a hapless, indestructible white rabbit - and your mission is to escape the evil Genron Corporation's animal testing facility while causing as much spectacular damage as possible along the way.

The chain mechanic is the heart of everything - Spanx swings Redmond like a medieval flail to batter security guards, scientists, and anything else that gets in the way. Along the way, you can dip Redmond into barrels of chemicals - electricity, fire, nitrogen, helium, and more - transforming him into a supercharged weapon with devastating new effects. The whole experience plays out with a wickedly irreverent sense of humour reminiscent of Monty Python, and the opening intro alone is so funny that fans report watching it repeatedly just to show friends.

The destruction system is a standout feature - almost everything in the Genron Corporation's lavish facilities can be smashed, broken, and destroyed, with a live ticker tracking the corporation's total asset value dropping in real time as you cause mayhem. Every lamp, computer console, product display, and piece of furniture is fair game, giving the destruction genuine purpose beyond simple chaos. Freeing caged animals and convincing them to join a rebel army led by a pink slug called the Master gives the adventure a charmingly absurd narrative thread.

For players who enjoy anarchic humour and chaotic destruction, Whiplash is a genuinely entertaining and unique hidden gem.
