Ty the Tasmanian Tiger is a charming and colourful 3D platformer on PS2 that stands as one of the most beloved Australian-made games ever produced. Developed by Brisbane studio Krome Studios, it launched alongside the likes of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro as a genuine contender in the collectathon platformer genre - and for fans of the style, it remains a wonderfully nostalgic and enjoyable adventure.

The story follows Ty, a young Tasmanian tiger raised in the wild who discovers his true heritage - his family were heroes who sacrificed themselves to stop the evil cassowary Boss Cass from sending all mammals to the Dreamtime. Armed with a collection of boomerangs and guided by the eccentric koala Julius and crotchety cockatoo Maurie, Ty must collect five mystical talismans hidden across the Australian landscape to rescue his family and save the day.

The gameplay is pure, accessible platforming fun across massive and beautifully detailed Australian-themed environments - lush rainforests, vast outback plains, sun-drenched beaches, and icy mountain peaks all rendered with vibrant colour and personality. Ty's main tools are his boomerangs - starting with a standard wooden rang before unlocking increasingly exotic varieties imbued with fire, ice, lightning, and more - each with their own tactical uses against different enemies and environmental puzzles. Thunder Eggs are scattered throughout each level to collect, with caged animals to free, time attack challenges to beat, and secrets hiding in every corner.
