Grand Prix 3 aims to be a complete simulation of the 1998 Formula 1 World Championship, and features all the tracks, teams and drivers. You can practice the racetracks (which is recommended to learn their layouts and work on car setup) or compete in single races or the full championship.

Each race weekend has practice and qualification sessions, and the lengths of these can be customized, as can the skill level of the opposition drivers. There are 7 driving aids available, including automatic brakes and gears and an indestructibility option - as you race at higher skill levels, less and less of these are available.

Car setup is done in precise detail, with the chance to change wing settings (trading off grip against straight-line speed), brake balances (affecting how the car handles under braking) and gear ratios (trading acceleration off against top speed), as well as more complicated ones like packers, dampers and the ride height - the manual explains it in considerable detail, as well as offering driving tips.

Before each race you choose your pit strategy and tire compound - those with better short-term grip wear out quicker, especially if your driving style is aggressive. Wet racing is included, which requires much more careful driving and shrewd strategic choices as to which type of tires to use and when to pit to change them.

With the ability to download more exclusive vehicles from the Need for Speed Web site, there will always be something new to test drive. For multiplayer enthusiasts, NFS3 supports up to two players with a modem or serial connection or up to eight players with a LAN connection. As if that wasn't enough, the already stunning graphics have been improved, with an even higher level of attention to detail that includes blowing leaves, smoke from the burning rubber of tyres and amazing weather effects such as rain, lightning, snow and fog. Finally, there's an all-new hot pursuit mode where you scorch the streets on either side of the law: elude the fuzz as a speeding motorist or enforce justice from a police patrol vehicle. Another new mode is knockout, where you race through all the tracks, and whoever is last after each race is knocked out. The winner is, of course, the one that lasts the distance. Midtown Madness 2 is the exact opposite of the typical racing game. Instead it's the simple racer for which PC speed freaks have been praying. It looks and plays better than most console racers, and while it is definitely an arcade racer and not a full-on driving simulation, that doesn't mean you can play it with your brain in park. The only people who might have a gripe with Midtown 2 are those who played the original to death, as the sequel is only slightly improved from the original. As in the original game, Midtown 2 features wild racing through busy city streets complete with multicar pileups and citizens diving for cover.

This time the action takes place in the streets of San Francisco and London. As expected, San Francisco sports its many landmarks and famous rolling hills, which offer plenty of chances to build up speed for ludicrous stunts. Keep an eye open for the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts. London's tight turns and twisting streets put the emphasis on driver skill rather than flat-out speed. Landmarks include Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and Trafalgar Square. Of course, the secret to success in the Midtown games is to find unconventional shortcuts that can bring about a quick victory.

For the most part players will be racing in standard circuit and checkpoint races. Interestingly, you must unlock most of the 20 cars in the game by finishing a series of races or completing the two in-game driving schools.

The graphics in Colin McRae Rally are excellent and incredibly varied. Colin McRae Rally takes you through 8 different countries in the world, each with 6 or 7 special stages and every one of the 54 special stages has its own character. From New Zealand's outback, through the mountain snow and tarmac stages of Monte Carlo, the beaches, paddy fields and rainforests of Indonesia, to the unpredictable UK stages, it is a graphical treat from start to finish. It is also very fast - you get a good sensation of speed in this game, as the scenery whizzes past you at a mind-boggling rate. In addition, the cars look very realistic; the car interior shakes about in response to what the car is doing, to simulate the driver head movement, but it never gets in the way of the action.

Colin McRae Rally also offers a selection of eight Rally vehicles with 4WD and 2WD vehicles. The game also offers a number of game modes including Championship, Rally, Time Trial, Rally School (learn the ropes from Colin McRae himself) and a two player mode.
