The little plastic soldiers are warring again (as always, it's the Greens versus the Tans), but this time the Greens might have come up with the weapon that will win the war. The little green guys have taken their best warriors, infused them full of crazy chemicals, and turned them into superhuman battle machines that are ready to tear the Tans to bits. Flame-throwers, grenade launchers, insane bazookas, and other crazy weapons get thrown into the mix before all is said and done. This decidedly violence-heavy instalment of the ongoing series is a faithful port of the PS2 version, boasting intense animation sequences, and gameplay that will have you sweating bullets. It's certainly not a realistic war simulation, but that's really not the point, is it? Playing with little plastic figures has never been this explosive.

No question about it: Doom is one of the greatest games of all time. The blend of a simple, yet compelling mission, breakthrough 3-D interface, brilliant level and weapon design, and the effective use of fear made Doom an instant classic and launched a revolution in computer games. Born on the PC, this game has been ported to almost everything imaginable, and the PlayStation port is one of the best.
You play the part of a space marine who was stationed on a research station on the Martian moon, Phobos. Something went very wrong when the researchers opened an extradimensional portal. Now you're trapped far from home, grabbing guns and ammo to blast the demons. A one-man crusade, you shoot everything that moves--and, likewise, everything that moves tries to return the favor.

This was the game that launched the multiplayer craze on the PC, and the PlayStation version does its best to live up to Doom's reputation as the ultimate multiplayer deathmatch game. If you have two players, two PlayStations, and a link cable, you can enjoy some mad two-player mayhem.

A few words of caution: remember that Doom was the first wildly successful first-person shooter, and while its graphics were astounding for its era, it hasn't aged well. If you want the latest and greatest graphics, you'll be disappointed, but if you're into quality gaming and appreciate history, you'll still get a huge blast out of Doom

The story starts in 1941, and the missions continue to the very end of the war in 1945. The game is divided into six campaigns; each takes place in a different part of Europe. Overall, the game has 23 graphically unique missions, set in France, Norway, Yugoslavia, and even in Prague during the last days of the War.

Hidden and Dangerous thrusts players into the middle of a gritty World War II movie as they control a small team of specialized soldiers in daring missions behind enemy lines that are fairly crawling with Nazis. The superb graphics create a convincing atmosphere, regardless of the terrain missions play out on. The sound effects--from pattering rain to the frantic screaming of an alerted guard--did much to suck us deeper into the game.

The controls are as responsive as they've always been, and the camera system doesn't fail, which is a rarity in third-person action games. The graphics are quite good for the PlayStation, if only slightly improved from Syphon Filter 2. The gameplay is extensive, with not only the story-based missions, but also some minigames and a multiplayer option that lets you gun for a friend in head-to-head combat. Given the flashback nature of the missions, Syphon Filter 3 might be confusing for new players, but fans of the series should enjoy it, and it would make a good companion purchase with the earlier classics.
